A partnership with the nation’s largest music industry body APRA AMCOS led to Virtual School Victoria recently hosting a two-day songwriting program, Songmakers.
Almost 20 students from Music Inquiry, Music Composition, Music Contemporary and Repertoire Performance and Music Units 1&2 attended the empowering program for young songwriters at Collingwood Yards.
Students were equipped with news skills and opportunities to explore their creativity. They also enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends.
One of the program highlights was local artists and industry experts mentoring students.
Virtual School Victoria was thrilled to host the following mentors:
- Al Parkinson
- Jackson Phelan (RAT!hammock)
- Nina Wilson (Ninajirachi).
‘It’s incredibly exciting that our students can be valued and acknowledged for their creative pursuits and their emerging musical talent nurtured in this way” said Dr. Tim Nikolsky, teacher of Music Contemporary Performance and Music Inquiry.
‘It is quite rare that such an initiative is available. We’re honoured to partner with APRA/AMCOS and applaud the Victorian Government’s investment into encouraging the creativity of the young people we work with’.
