“How aren’t we getting around?” was the response from VSV parent, Janna, when asked how her family was traveling on their nearly year-long adventure.

“Big planes, small planes, helicopters, trains, cars, boats, surfboards, skis, skidoos, reindeer sleighs, husky sleighs, safari vehicles, horseback, cable cars, ski lifts, bikes… I’m sure there are others I’ve forgotten,” mused Janna.

The family of six is traveling to a breathtaking range of countries – from Botswana to Switzerland. While older daughter Sophie, who is at university, is joining for part of the adventure, VSV students Laura (9), Charlie (7), and Hugh (5) are along for the whole ride.

“We feel like this is an opportunity to ‘stop time’ a little bit while the kids are still young. We know from experience, with our eldest, how fast time goes. We are grateful to have more time together this year as well as some amazing adventures. We are making memories that will last a lifetime,” reflected Janna.

Janna has been impressed with how VSV makes virtual learning so user-friendly.

“The materials and online learning platforms are excellent, and everything is so well organised and easy to follow. The kids are thriving academically,” she said.

“We have really enjoyed being more engaged in the children’s learning. When they are at mainstream school, you don’t fully understand the details of what they are learning every day. Doing it with them is so rewarding, and it makes it much easier to reinforce their learning in real-life situations,” Janna added.

While different time zones present unique challenges for learning, one challenge remains the same for parents regardless of location. “Teaching and supervising your own children definitely has its moments!” Janna smiled.
