An intrepid group of curious and critical VSV Philosophy Club thinkers attended the Philosophy in Public Spaces event at NGV Australia last month.
The day offered students the chance to use artwork as a prompt for developing philosophical questions. Students relished discussing possible answers to the questions, while developing their active listening and reasoning skills.
VSV Philosophy Club member, Terry, said the event made them think about how art might be associated with the time the pieces were painted. It also made them think about flaws in philosophical ideas.
Terry also said they especially enjoyed the debate about whether control and ownership are the same thing or two separate concepts.
“The main points of discussion were control versus ownership. Some said they were the same, and just as many said they were different. I absolutely believe they are different concepts,” they explained.
The event was organised by NGV and Philosophy in Schools Victoria. It was attended by other philosophy students from around the state.

VCE Philosophy courses and the Year 10 Philosophy elective are offered to VSV students interested in philosophy. More information is available on the VSV subject information page.
