Virtual School Victoria is proud to support Wear it Purple Day on Friday, 27th August. The event is about showing LGBTIQA+ young people that they have the right to be proud of who they are. We support creating safe spaces in schools and the community to show LGBTIQA+ young people that they are seen and supported.
Research indicates that 75% of LGBTIQ youth experience some form of discrimination. 61% experience verbal abuse, and 19% experience physical bullying. 24.4% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual people experience depression. 36.2% of Trans Australians experience depression. This compares to 6.8% of the general population who experience depression.
VSV encourages our community to support this day by wearing purple clothing.
