Year 9 Science workshop: magnets, motors and circuits

On Thursday, 16 of May Year 9 Science students attended a workshop investigating circuits and motors in the VSV science lab.

It was great to see students attending both at VSV and online via Adobe Connect. Students logged in online and collaborated with those in the lab to build motors and circuits. All the action was streamed live to students who could not attend in person, enabling them to be included in the practical activities and contribute to projects.

It was also great to see the cooperation result in the construction and design of some great projects using the Little Bits circuitry. One example of the creative and useful ideas that students developed came from one team who designed a circuit that helped ballet students maintain correct foot positioning by buzzing them when placed incorrectly.

Hands-on activities are crucial for students who are studying from home. Many students reported that they now have a much better understanding of the science that we covered. They also had a lot of fun, made new friends, caught up with old ones and enjoyed meeting their teachers.

We will be holding another lab workshop in Term 3. We would be delighted to see more students participate both online and at the VSV. Stay tuned for more information closer to the date.
