
Year 7 Art
Overview
In Year 7 Art, you will spend the semester building skills in a variety of art mediums, exploring collage techniques, drawing, painting and photography, as well as others.
You will be asked to follow the art process by researching, planning and experimenting before complete final artworks.
You will also learn about historical and contemporary artists, discussing how art has evolved over time. You will learn about the art elements and principles, analysing how visual artists use visual language to express meaning in their work and how you can too!
What do you do?
Throughout the semester, students will be given many opportunities to express themselves and show their creativity.
Students will:
- Experiment with collage and create a final artwork
- Create an artwork inspired by an artist of their choice
- Explore mandalas and use the art elements and principles to create their own.
What skills do you develop?
Students will develop practical skills in:
- Collage
- Photography
- Mixed media
- Drawing;
- using tone and texture to create form ·
- Using art elements and principles colour to convey meaning and express emotions.
Students will develop their understanding of art, identifying and analysing the decisions made by artists (and themselves) when creating artworks. They will learn about the art elements and principles, using descriptive language to speak and write about art. They will also reflect on their own art and their experience of the art-making process.
Requirements
Students will need access to a camera (device or scanner), computer (and/or tablet) and the internet. Tasks will mostly be completed manually (on paper), but students may choose to work digitally. Students will need access to some basic art supplies: ·
- Plain paper (not lined) or visual diary , A4 or A3.
- Grey lead pencil (HB, 2B), sharpener, eraser
- Scissors and glue stick · Coloured pencils
- Optional:
- Textas / markers (black or coloured)
- Fine liners and pens
- Ruler
- Any other art supplies of your choice (eg. watercolour pencils, paint)
- Any other digital art software and hardware (eg. Stylus, procreate, digital drawing apps)
