Year 12 Applied Computing: Data Analytics Units 3 and 4
Overview
In Unit 3 you will access, select and extract authentic data from large repositories. You will manipulate the data to present findings as data visualisations in response to solution requirements and designs. You will then develop software solutions using SQL, spreadsheet and data visualisation software tools to solve problems in the development stages of manipulation, validation and testing.
The software solutions involve importing data from files to a database to identify patterns and relationships. You will then import data into a spreadsheet for further refinement before presenting your findings as data visualisations.
In Unit 4 you will propose a research question, formulate a project plan, and collect and analyse data. You will then generate alternative design ideas and represent the preferred design for creating infographics or dynamic data visualisations. In outcome two students investigate the current data and information security strategies of an organisation, examine the threats to the security of data and information, and recommend strategies to improve current practices.
Who is it for?
If you are interested in database development and design, and data visualisations, SQL and/or Cyber security.
If you like visual and graphic design and using information to create creative and interesting infographic designs, then this is a good subject to study.
What do you do?
You will manipulate data in databases and spreadsheets. Use SQL (Structed query language) and use software to create data visualisations/infographics You will also study Cyber security.
What skills do you need?
While there are no specified criteria to enrol in this subject, you will need to have good mathematics skills, and you should be able to use and apply logic, as well as being self-motivated and resourceful.
Database software, such as Microsoft ACCESS and Excel, are helpful.
What skills do you develop?
You will develop your skills to identify, select and extract relevant data from databases and design and develop data visualisations and infographics. Learn SQL and Cyber security.
Requirements
