Year 10 Skills for Life
Overview
Skills for Life is for students who want to discover more about themselves and their options for study and work beyond Year 10.
The course is delivered over a semester and is broken up into four components: personal development, careers, financial literacy and a personal challenge.
What do you do?
In this subject you will have the opportunity to develop individual goals with your teacher. You will explore the options beyond Year 10, including a deeper look into the different Victorian School Certificates to figure out which is the right one for you.
Students will also research careers, complete their Safe@Work certificate and will have the opportunity to participate in work experience. We will learn how to write a resume, cover letter and get tips on what to do in a job interview.
In the finance module, students learn how to calculate a budget and practice making financial choices such as choosing a rental property and deciding what level of insurance to take out on a car.
For the final three weeks of the course, students are encouraged to develop, plan and achieve their own personal goal.
What skills do you develop?
You will have the opportunity to develop practical life skills in this subject such as:
- Developing personal goals
- Creating a budget
- Understanding financial terms
- Researching skills (how to use websites like Seek, Course Search etc. to find information about courses and jobs)
