VSV offers a range of school clubs to create engaging student experiences outside the classroom.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a youth awards program founded in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that runs in 144 countries. The award recognises the achievements of young people in various areas of personal development.
Club member, Ciri, joined the club at the encouragement of friends.
‘I thought it would be fun to try something new and challenge myself – and I have loved it ever since!’ she said.
‘Duke of Ed is all about trying new things, giving it your best shot and developing your skills. I have been able to grow as a person by embracing new experiences – anywhere from learning to dance, to climbing a mountain!’
Fellow club member, Emma, has also benefited from the club.
‘The best thing I’ve done in Duke of Ed is going on the Adventurous Journey at the end of each year. It’s lots of fun and can be physically challenging. It teaches you to be resilient and encourages you to face your challenges head-on,’ explained Emma.
She also said that the benefits of DofE go beyond growing your skills and having fun.
‘The Duke of Edinburgh Award is also looked on highly by some universities and can even grant you access to scholarships to help you get through uni!’
