The times were dark. Humans had turned the planet as sour as a lemon, the oceans were a toxic green and the air was as warm as an oven. In the year 3000 scientist invented carbon neutraliser, a chemical compound that reacts with CO2 and removes it, but they only made enough to live in the highest peaks before drowning in the floods. They were now three tribes of humans the Everests, the K2s and the Makalu’s. But flying above the earth I see, a child to bring back the world, a child to change history, a child of true magic.
As the golden sun rose, light shined over the archipelago of the Himalayas. Suddenly, birds flew out of the Everest forests, Max a shrimp of a boy, with short messy red hair who was bad at everything (except thinking) rushed out of the forest like a cheater, pursued by an angry mob of Everest tribes’ men. A spear sailed past. Max could hear the enemy getting closer every second. Suddenly an arrow hit right on an Everestians head. Max’s best friends Lewis and Josh swung in on a vine. Lewis was strength of the trio; he preferred brute force instead of ambushing or sneak attacks. Josh, on the other hand, was like a large matchstick with arms and legs, he was very good at negotiating and being friends. The trio ran so fast that they felt if their legs could come off. Suddenly, Josh tripped on a vine and sent the three of them down a cliff side. Max’s ten years of life flashed before his eyes as he waited for the impact, but today fate was happy and let the drop on a thick carpet of moss. Lewis picked the others up found their boat and sailed back to their home on the island K2.
Back on K2 a rare green parrot dropped off a letter at their feet. It read:
Dear Max,
“Here is the prophesy of the new world:
When the earth is dry and baren
The seas an emerald green
The skies a crimson red
Will the child be found
All he needs
To save the world
Is the earths lost things
The Kapow’s feather
An ice brick
A yew trees arm
A bottle of true oxygen
A Roman kotinos
A drop of carbons enemy
And to save the world the last spiral shell of the sea.
The boys stared at the scroll, was max the child and if so, what will they do.
“This is a funny note,” said Max.
“I know but are you the child Max?” replied Josh.
“I think one of us is, hey look at that fish so small I could stomp on it.” answered Lewis.
“I know let’s go to the abandoned lab, the museum, Everest and Makalu.” thought Max. The trio set off to the island of Makalu.
Makalu was a peaceful island, inhabited by not so peaceful people. Makalu was the only place that a yew tree was left standing. The boys spotted the ‘great’ wall of Makalu a smallish sized wall for defence. The boys were experts at sneaking (except Lewis) and snuck to the side of the wall so the guards could not see them. Then they found a door. Lewis opened it to find an armed Makaluian. He did a ninja kick and sent it flying ono the chief’s tent. So much for being strong. The three ran all the way under the cover of the chief hut commotion and snapped off the branch of yew.
“One down six to go!” yelled Max.
“let’s get out of here.” Replied Josh shaking like a tree on a windy day. Together the trio hopped in their boat and sailed for the abandoned museum.
The abandoned museum was not a big museum filled with cobwebs; it was an underwater structure still stocked with precious items. The boys had just made it to the museum when an arrow plunged into the water. Josh looked back and instantly regretted his action, because behind them was all the warriors of Makalu armed with spears, bow and arrows, swords, sticks and a gun. Max threw a rock at a warrior before taking his weapon. He handed the rusty iron blade to Lewis who threw it like a Frisby at the archers chopping off their heads, bubbling red liquid sprayed everywhere. Josh was hitting enemies off their boat with his oar. Soon all the warriors where in the toxic water or dead. The boys collected the overturned boats and used the as air pockets for their journey under water. The boys found a hatch on the top of the museum and opened it. Inside the museum was a few clear boxes made out of some weird hard shiny stuff. Inside was an array of ancient items there was a mobile phone, a book, a bamboo scroll and a turtle shell all with inscriptions. Suddenly Lewis saw a lime green reef. Then Josh saw right next to the book was a lime green feather. Lewis smashed the case with a sharp stone claw then he snatched the olive crown. Josh got out a metal wire and started fiddling with the rusted grey opening. Soon there was a click and a side of the case opened. Josh took the feather carefully. With all the museum could give the boys opened the hatch and swam to their boats.
When the boys got to the surface, the golden sun had begun to set. The blue sky was painted by a hue of red and yellow. The trio sailed home for food and rest but they did not see the green parrot follow they home, whispering to himself.
As the morning sun rose the black sky was painted with bright colours. Max was at Garden Bay skipping rocks. Max looked at the sea, he wished that he was not the child. He wanted to save humans but something seamed wrong. Max thought about his first birthday.
Max had been born into a poor family, only rich enough to afford potatoes and cabbage for all meals. On his birthday was meant to be a time of happiness where they would put aside worries and have some good food. Although on that day was the great floods. His family could only send one person to Asia and they choose Max there only son. He went to Asia and left his parents. The died that day.
Suddenly max was shaken awake Lewis.
“let’s go to abandoned laboratory. Oh, and I found something!” he said before showing a blue spiral shell speckled with gold. Max called Josh over and together they sailed to the abandoned lab.
The abandoned laboratory was a sunken research submarine where scientists had invented carbon neutraliser. The boys used the same strategy of overturned boats as air storage. The trio slowly descended down into to the remains of the submarine. Suddenly max’s air pocket as smashed open by a killifish. He swam to his second boat trying not to swallow the toxic water. A swarm of killifish who were all fighting each other arrived. There was now a hole in one of Josh’s boats. The boys made it down to the giant mechanical fish before opening a doorway and entering in. Inside the lab was like a mini aquarium filled with random rocket science tools and an empty glass bottle. Josh noticed the bottle floating in the water as if it were in space. Max thought about carbons enemy, what would carbon hate…
The answer was simple, if you were Max, it was a drop of carbon neutraliser. Max search though the storage areas and found a bottle withed with the last drop of carbon neutraliser. Max snatched the bottle and the group set off to the surface. Suddenly Joash fainted and slow rose to the surface. Then all of them fainted.
Max and the others woke up in the prison of Everest. Suddenly a guard walked pass opened the wooden door. He grunted instructions at them before seizing their shirts and dragging them over. The boys were bound to a log then placed in a bonfire.
“Oh, hear us mighty god of death and darkness take this willing sacrifice and make us strong like you.” Yelled an elder. A soldier set the brown pile on fire with a bright red spark. Flames grew and liked the wood like a hungry beast. Josh streaked in horror and Lewis was crying for the first time. Then Max knocked his pole over and he could crawl around on all fours like a lizard with a flaming tail. Lewis stopped his sobbing and pushed Josh and himself into that position. The elder was whacked in the face by a flame and his beard burnt like a bomb fuse. Birds like eagles, parrots and vultures who had survived the devastation began pecking and pooping on Everestians. Suddenly the log tied to Max burnt to so far that it touched Max’s back. He screamed around in agony. He spent his last seconds looking for something to save him. He spotted a chunk of ice and scrambled towards it and popped it on his back, but he forgot he had his bag on, the bag with all the things. Suddenly the sky darkened. I dove from my hiding place high in the sky and picked up Max into the clouds. I healed him in a heartbeat.
“I was the green parrot, the one that sent you that note the one that told your parents to send you, the one that watched over you, the one that made you … you.” I said, “you are the child of destiny’ the one that would save the earth’ the one to find the earths lost things, you… were a born hero, but with along this journey you have become a true hero the hard way.”
I dropped Max down on to the earth where the oceans were lower and no longer toxic, where the air was a welcoming blue, where the earth was in the pink. I dropped my final message before flying away. Lewis picked it up and read:
“Use this chance wisely as you only have one, use your life wisely as you only have one, use this world wisely as you only have…one.”
Max and everyone slowly made it down to the bottom of Everest.
“I just realised that each thing had its own meaning. The feather death, the cube preservation, the branch life, the bottle purity, the kotino’s peace, the neutraliser change and the shell nature.” Said Max. life was back to normal, but more peace. The world had change for the better.
I urge all the people past and future no matter where on the timeline to enjoy life and become your destiny, because, ‘yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present’. Looking into the future I see, that humans became better and kept the planet safe, but that is a whole new story.
