Celebrating Academic Excellence: Announcing Our 2025 VCE Dux

shape-type-3

We are proud to congratulate our 2025 Dux, Sylvie Wilson, whose outstanding academic achievement is a testament to focus, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Enrolled with VSV since Year 9, Sylvie has spent 4 years navigating a demanding academic pathway alongside elite ballet training commitments, currently with Miami City Ballet School. As a Sport/Performance category enrolment, Sylvie’s learning journey has been shaped by intensive training schedules and the need to relocate, including extended periods of training both interstate and internationally.

In the middle of the VCE calendar, Sylvie undertook summer intensive programs in both the United States for the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and the United Kingdom for the Royal Ballet School London, all while managing assessment preparation and SAC deadlines from abroad. During this time, flexible learning proved invaluable, allowing continuity in learning without compromising either academic or performance goals.

Training days often stretched between 6-8 hours, 6 days a week, leaving study to early mornings, late evenings, or on Sundays. Rather than viewing this as a limitation, Sylvie approached both training and learning with the same structured mindset. The rhythms of online learning and elite training were complementary, each demanding self-discipline, and routine – qualities that come quite naturally to Sylvie.

While VSV’s flexible model made this pathway possible, the achievement itself belongs squarely to Sylvie. Sustaining such a high level of academic performance under sustained physical and mental demands requires exceptional organisation, and intrinsic motivation.

Notably, Sylvie entered her VCE exams having not previously sat formal exams under supervised conditions. To step into that environment, manage the pressure, and emerge at the highest academic level speaks volumes about her preparation, adaptability, and composure.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Sylvie. Her achievement stands as a powerful reminder that with the right support and an unwavering commitment, flexible learning can enable but never replace extraordinary individual effort.
