As we finish the 2024 school year, I congratulate our students on their year of learning and growth. It is a great privilege to work with such a wide diversity of students, families and staff.
It is also the time of year to farewell students who are moving on to different schools or training next year and those who have completed VCE. We would love to hear about what happens next in your story and I wish you well.
The Victorian Certificate of Education is one way to open the door to the next step in life. Our VCE students have once again demonstrated their readiness to take that step through their incredible talent and perseverance. I am very proud of each and every one of them and delighted to share a sample of our results.
In 2024 an increased number of students successfully completed their VCE with VSV. The number of 40+ scores rose and three students achieved perfect scores in English Language, Foundation Mathematics, and Psychology. The average study score rose to 27.85.
A special congratulations to our Dux, Makenzie White, and to Tian Miaou, who earned a perfect ATAR of 99.95, enabling her to pursue Medicine. Both students embody the resilience and determination that define VSV. In her graduation speech, Makenzie eloquently captured the spirit of our school:
“The existence of this school prioritises what in my opinion is the most important part of education, and what I believe has been somewhat lost elsewhere. That is a collective joy and achievement in learning. It is the genuine understanding that where you sit on a statewide bell curve doesn’t contend with your own personal goals, achievements, and engagement with learning.”
Congratulations also go to the teachers and staff who supported every student in achieving their goals. Growth comes in many forms, and we are proud to celebrate it all.
The last weeks of term have been jam-packed with highlights. From Making Waves, showcasing the talents of our VCE Music students at the Melbourne Recital Centre, to the Year 6 Graduation, where students delivered heartfelt speeches marking their important milestone. It was also a treat to see the Year 8 Drama performance which was developed in collaboration with the Melbourne Theatre Company. Additionally, our Careers Team delivered a dynamic week for Middle Years students, exploring pathways for the future. My gratitude to everyone who made these events so successful.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of every staff member this year. Whether visible or behind the scenes, your dedication has been integral to the success of VSV. Special thanks to the Combined Leadership Team and the Executive Team whose resilience and leadership inspire us all.
As the year winds down, I wish everyone in the VSV community a joyful, happy and peaceful holiday season. I hope you have a safe and relaxing summer holiday, and I look forward to seeing you in 2025, refreshed and ready for another exciting year.
