Executive Principal’s Message
As Term 2 draws to a close, this edition of VSV Life offers an opportunity to reflect on the semester that has been. I am proud of the many opportunities our students have embraced to connect, learn and grow, whether through sub-school activities, subject-specific experiences or broader community events. Together, these moments showcase the richness of school life at VSV and the many ways our students engage with learning beyond their regular lessons.
No matter the reason for enrolment in online learning, connection remains at the heart of a positive school experience. Finding a sense of belonging, building relationships and engaging with others through shared interests are all important aspects of learning and wellbeing. The experiences featured throughout this edition highlight the strength of our community and the many ways students are supported to pursue personal and academic growth in environments that recognise and respond to their individual needs.
With the winter holidays now upon us, I encourage our students, families and staff to make time for the activities and routines that support wellbeing and renewal. The shorter days offer a welcome opportunity to slow down, rest and recharge. They also provide a natural moment for reflection; to acknowledge achievements from the first half of the year and to consider the goals and intentions that will shape the months ahead. Success looks different for every learner, and I encourage our students to focus on the aspirations that are meaningful to them. I hope the Student Wellbeing and Parent Wellbeing content in this edition offer practical ideas and encouragement for supporting wellbeing over the break.
The term break also coincides with NAIDOC Week (July 5-12), an important opportunity for all Australians to celebrate and recognise the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I encourage our community to take time to engage with this year’s theme and reflect on the contributions of First Nations peoples to our shared story. In this edition, I am pleased to highlight a special contribution from our Koorie Inclusion team, who share their insights and reflections in recognition of this important week.
As we look ahead to the second half of the year, we also acknowledge a change within our School Council leadership. I extend my sincere gratitude to our outgoing School Council President, Tara Blanchy, whose thoughtful leadership and commitment have been greatly valued throughout her tenure. As Tara and her family embark on an exciting new chapter overseas, she leaves with our warmest thanks and best wishes. On behalf of the VSV community, I thank Tara for her service and wish her and her family every success and happiness in the future.
Thank you to our students, families, staff and volunteers for the contribution each of you makes to our school community. I wish you a safe and restful break and look forward to continuing our shared journey of learning, growth and connection in Term 3.
