If you are new to our school community, you may have recently learnt about our online clubs. Teacher-facilitated VSV Clubs give students a chance to connect socially in a safe and supportive environment outside of formal lessons.
Our Minecraft Club is for students in Grades 3–6. Using Minecraft Education, students team up to build worlds together on the second Wednesday of each month throughout the school year. For many students, particularly those adjusting to a new school environment, clubs can be a gentle bridge to belonging.
These sessions are intentionally low-pressure spaces where connection comes first. Away from the expectations of formal learning, students can interact with peers around a shared interest. There is no pressure to participate in a particular way.
Sometimes the first little win is simply logging in.
From there, teachers often see confidence grow in small but meaningful ways – listening along to conversations, contributing in the chat, turning on a camera, or sharing an idea with the group. Over time, these small moments of participation can build a student’s confidence and sense of connection with others.
Our teachers notice that the confidence students develop in clubs often flows into their learning spaces, helping them feel more comfortable participating in classes and engaging with their peers.
Next term, we are excited to commence our Music Club for Foundation to Grade 6 students. In online learning environments, primary students typically focus on core subjects. Music Club provides a chance to explore creativity and self-expression in a relaxed and playful setting.
During sessions, teachers will:
- play instruments to support the session
- share familiar songs students can sing or jam along to
- invite students to suggest favourite songs, artists or musical styles
- offer opportunities for show-and-tell with instruments from home
- share simple craft ideas for making instruments using everyday materials.
Students are welcome to participate in whatever way suits them — listening, singing along, tapping a rhythm, or simply enjoying the music.
For some children, music can be one of the most comfortable ways to connect with others. A favourite song, a homemade shaker, or the courage to share a musical interest can quickly become another little win.
For students who may feel unsure about joining in, online clubs offer a relaxed place to start. Sometimes the smallest step — logging in, watching, or listening — becomes the first little win on the path to confidence and connection.
