Victorian school staff recently undertook protected industrial action following a breakdown in negotiations between the Victorian Government and the Australian Education Union. As a School Council, we want to acknowledge this action and express our support for the educators and support staff who continue to advocate for fair conditions and the resources needed to deliver high quality education.
For a school like Virtual School Victoria, full and proper funding is especially important. Our model relies on specialist expertise, high quality digital learning environments, and the capacity to provide personalised support to students learning in diverse and often complex circumstances. Ensuring staff have manageable workloads, appropriate class sizes, and access to the tools and technology required for online learning directly affects the quality of education our students receive.
VSV teachers and support staff work across a wide range of learning needs; from students with chronic health conditions to those who are gifted, neurodiverse, geographically isolated, or experiencing significant personal challenges. We also support students pursuing high performance pathways in areas such as elite sport, the arts, and major performance commitments, as well as students who enrol with VSV to study subjects not offered at their local school. Adequate funding ensures we can continue to meet all these diverse needs with the level of care, responsiveness, and educational rigour our community expects.
We recognise the dedication of VSV staff and the broader Victorian teaching workforce, and we support efforts to secure the conditions and resources required to sustain a strong public education system. Our students benefit when the people who teach and support them are valued, well‑resourced, and able to focus on what they do best: helping our young people learn and thrive.
